Episode 002: Stadium Challenge Part 1

EPISODE SUMMARY

The cast is dropped off at a location and instructed to find Yeonmudae (a martial arts platform). The first to arrive gets the privilege of picking their teammates. Guests Goo Hara, Lee Chun Hee and Song Ji Hyo are all given the same challenge. Chun Hee arrives at a location and confidently tells his VJ that he is the first to arrive. He soon hears chatter and turns to find several of the Running Man cast already gathered at a platform behind him—which is the correct location.

At Song Ji Hyo's arrival, Jae Suk immediately starts addressing her in a more casual manner. HaHa scolds Jae Suk for pretending to be close to her, telling him to address her as Song Ji Hyo-sshi. Jae Suk asks HaHa if he likes Ji Hyo and HaHa is nonplussed and can't answer.

With almost everyone gathered, the cast takes a moment to check attendance and Suk Jin's absence is noted. Joong Ki frames Suk Jin, claiming that he had fainted. Jae Suk suggest that Suk Jin's name not be mentioned for a while. The team selections start without him.

Kwang Soo is given the opportunity to pick his team. He states he wants to do so democratically and asks if anyone wants to be on his team, which is met with awkward silence. He picks his team by not choosing those who have seemingly left a bad impression on him.

Winning Goal:

Earn the most money in order to escape. Money can be earned by playing games or finding Golden Pigs.

Suk Jin arrives at the stadium in time to be locked in for the night's mission. South Korea National Team's goal keeper, Jung Sung Ryong, appears in a video message to relay the mission. At the end, he follows "Running Man, fighting!" with "Song Joong Ki, fighting!" Joong Ki reveals that Sung Ryong is the coach of Joong Ki's soccer club.

Mission 1:

Use the hint to find the location of Golden Piggy Banks.

Both teams are given a video clip from the 2002 FIFA World Cup South Korea match with Italy, when SK advanced to the Quarter Finals. Joong Ki reasons that they need to find the Victory Ball. The Home Team locates the World Cup Memorial Hall and quickly makes their way there. After a bit of wandering, HaHa convinces the Away Team to check the Memorial Hall. Both teams make it into the Memorial Hall, where a total of 4 Golden Piggy Banks are hidden.

Chaos ensues as a room full of decoy piggy banks are lined on chairs and Jong Kook finds the only bank with money. Meanwhile, Gary finds one disguised as a museum display item. Hara finds the third one on a stand. The last piggy bank is hidden in a wall of soccer balls, which Hara quickly spots. Ji Hyo spots her and immediately tries to steal it, but the race is ended.

Suk Jin suggests the teams play a game of Kai Bai Po (Rock Paper Scissors) and the losing team must forfeit one bank. Both teams agree to play a last-man-standing game of Kai Bai Po. Home Team wins, giving them all 4 piggy banks.

HaHa appears with one of the empty decoy banks and Jae Suk proposes another round of Kai Bai Po. Jong Kook and Suk Jin tease them about how light the bank looks and tells them to pretend it's heavy; if they do a convincing job, the Home Team might donate a "heavy" bank to the Away Team.

HaHa begins, pretending it's so heavy he can't pick it up off the floor. Kwang Soo helps, and ends up with the "heavy" bank crushing his foot. Gary jumps in to help lift it and rest it on Kwang Soo's knee. Ji Hyo scoots in and they carefully lift the bank onto her shoulder; she collapses under its weight. Ji Hyo struggles to stand and slowly passes it off to Jae Suk. Jae Suk takes it and slams to the ground under its weight. But the empty bank makes a very light, empty sound as it hits the ground, earning the disapproval of the Home Team.

Mission 2:

Catch Phrase Game. One person must stand 7 rows away from their team and shout clues while the rest of the team must guess the correct answer. Additional challenge: Cheering Squad blocks the clue giver from the team and shouts to drown out the shouted clues.

Away Team earns 3 points with HaHa shouting and miming clues.

Home Team gets ready for their turn when Kwang Soo timidly approaches the Jong Kook. When Jae Suk asks Kwang Soo what the matter is, Kwang Soo tells him that he's trying to get back the stick that one of the cheering squad members was using to beat a drum; Jong Kook took the stick to prevent the additional noise. Jae Suk finds a gong that Suk Jin had confiscated and tried to hide. As Kwang Soo beats the drum himself, the Home Team earns 4 points with Joong Ki shouting clues.

With his team losing, Jae Suk asks for consideration from the opposing team to give them a chance to win. The Home Team tells him to kneel while HaHa suggests he does push-ups. Suk Jin then tells him to kiss his knee and Jae Suk does so for another round of the game. Away team earns 4 points with Jae Suk shouting clues.

Hara and Chun Hee both shout and mime clues for the Home Team's second round. Home Team earns 5 points and Away Team loses again.

Mission 3:

Photoshoot Mission.

HaHa immediately expresses confidence for the photoshoot mission because Gary and his peaceful expression is on his team.

Round 1: Face captured to count

Home Team wins, 4:2. Peaceful Gary is one of the two Away Team faces captured.

Round 2: Toothy smile on face must be captured to count

Tie 3:3. A smiling Peaceful Gary appears in the shot once again.

Round 3: Face must be while jumping into frame to count

Away Team wins, 1:0. The only one who is successful: Peaceful Gary, tucked in the lower right corner.

Round 4: Face captured in specified narrow area to count

Blue Team wins, 3:2. Suk Jin takes over Gary's role with the natural, at-ease pose.

Round 5: Hara vs. Ji Hyo; Face captured smiling while jumping to count

Tie, 0:0. Neither girl jumped high enough to get into the frame

Round 6: Suk Jin vs. Gary; Face captured with a calm expression while jumping to count

Away Team wins; both faces captured, but Peaceful Gary beats an uneasy expression on Suk Jin's face.

With Peaceful Gary's success, Away Team finally wins a Golden Piggy Bank.

Mission 4:

Find your team's swim suits and make your way to the bus to find 5 Golden Piggy Banks.

The members get clues about a hint of "your most important person" and instructions to search for their team's swimming suits. At Ji Hyo's suggestion, Away Team looks for a VIP area while Home Team searches the dressing rooms for uniforms for important players. Both eventually make their way to the VIP room.

Away Team finds their suits in the Ruby Room of the VIP Lounge and make their way to the bus. While they do so, Ji Hyo finds the Home Team suits and HaHa grabs their bag. Joong Ki and Hara see the Away Team find their suits and follow them. Away Team boards the bus and as it pulls away, Kwang Soo tosses Joong Ki the Home Team suits. Home Team must wait 10 minutes for the next bus, giving Away Team an advantage. Home Team closes the time gap some by changing into their swimsuits before catching the next bus.

Away Team collects two Golden Pigs from diving boards, one from 3.5m high and the other from 10m high. Kwang Soo and Ji Hyo both inch out onto the 10m board and Ji Hyo collects the piggy bank. Kwang Soo stands and uses the vantage point to look for other banks. While he does so, Ji Hyo startles him from behind, causing Kwang Soo to collapse as his shaky legs give out.

Kwang Soo, HaHa and Jae Suk dive into the pool to collect banks on the pool floor as Home Team comes in. Jong Kook immediately dives into the fray. After 10 minutes of struggling under the water, they realize that they're diving for a gold-colored ball, not a pig.

HaHa spots a piggy bank in a deep area of the pool. He dives several times but fails to reach it. Kwang Soo jumps in and manages to reach it. Meanwhile, in the general pool, Hara spots a bank in the shallow pool and Jong Kook retrieves it. She then finds the last one hidden in a pile of pool floaties.

Mission 5:

Diving Competition. The team that dives the most cumulative height wins.

HaHa grabs a life buoy and climbs onto the 3.5m board. He drops the buoy to test the drop time. He trembles and stalls while Ji Hyo urges him to close his eyes and jump.

Haha: 3.5m

After Suk Jin wavers on jumping from a higher level, Joong Ki agrees to go next and challenges the 5m jump. After a brief hesitation, he takes a deep breath and prepares to jump. This is where Episode 2 ends.
